Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA - DOTC) and Green Marine Group Copenhagen Join Forces for Green Maritime Transition.

In a major step towards promoting sustainability and environmental stewardship in the maritime industry, MARINA has partnered with Green Marine . On 11 April 2024, they formalized a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to advance mutual interests in the green transition of the maritime sector in the Philippines.

The MOU establishes a comprehensive framework for collaboration, focusing on promoting sustainable practices, enhancing regulatory frameworks, and fostering the adoption of innovative technologies in maritime operations throughout the Philippines.

The key areas of collaboration outlined in the agreement include:
1. Enhancing regulatory frameworks: MARINA and Green Marine Copenhagen will work together to promote environmental sustainability, safety, and efficiency in maritime operations by enhancing regulatory frameworks.

2. Adopting innovative technologies: Both parties will collaborate to identify and implement innovative technologies and best practices in maritime operations, furthering the industry's green transition.

3. Developing training programs: MARINA and Green Marine Copenhagen will jointly develop training programs and initiatives aimed at enhancing the skills and capabilities of maritime professionals, ensuring they are equipped to navigate the evolving demands of sustainability in the industry.

4. Advancing sustainable solutions: Through research and development efforts, MARINA and Green Marine Copenhagen will identify and promote sustainable maritime solutions, contributing to the industry's overall green transformation.

MARINA Administrator, Ms. Sonia Malaluan emphasized that the objectives of Green Marine Copenhagen are in perfect alignment with MARINA's goal of enhancing operational efficiency and fostering environmentally sustainable transportation opportunities.

The MOU was signed by MARINA Administrator Malaluan and Green Marine Copenhagen CEO, Mr. Morten Thomas Jakobsen, in the presence of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime J. Bautista and Danish Ambassador to the Philippines, Franz-Michael Skjold Mellbin.

This collaboration marks an important milestone in the pursuit of a greener maritime industry. By joining forces, MARINA and Green Marine Copenhagen are demonstrating their commitment to sustainable practices and the advancement of the Philippines as a leader in environmentally responsible maritime operations.
