Singapore Polytechnic's Centre of Excellence in Maritime Safety and GREEN MARINE GROUP Announce Landmark Research Collaboration
On 1st November, 2023 - Singapore Polytechnic's Centre of Excellence in Maritime Safety (SP CEMS) and GREEN MARINE GROUP Denmark are partnering to collaborate on innovative research aimed at advancing safety and sustainability in the maritime industry. This meaningful partnership seeks to revolutionise training in methanol bunkering handling and safety through the development of an immersive technology platform.
Recognising the growing importance of methanol as an environmentally friendly marine fuel, SP CEMS and GREEN MARINE have joined forces to address the increasing need for specialised training and knowledge in methanol bunkering. The partnership will leverage cutting-edge technology, including virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), to create an immersive training environment that enhances safety and proficiency in methanol bunkering procedures.
Key Objectives of the Research Collaboration:
1. Immersive Training Platform: Develop a state-of-the-art immersive technology platform that replicates real-life methanol bunkering scenarios, enabling trainees to practice and refine their skills in a risk-free environment.
2. Enhanced Safety Protocols: Create innovative safety protocols and best practices for the safe handling of methanol, reducing the risk of accidents and incidents.
3. Sustainability Focus: Promote the use of methanol as a green marine fuel, aligning with global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and enhance sustainability in the maritime sector.
Mr. Daniel Zhang, Centre Director of SP CEMS, emphasised the significance of the partnership with GREEN MARINE, saying, "The partnership with GREEN MARINE holds particular significance as we embark on our journey towards maritime decarbonisation.
